Note: López & Kirkegaard at Musikprotokoll 2007
Francisco López and Jacob Kirkegaard at Musikprotokoll / Steirischer Herbst 2007.
Francisco López / Philip Jeck
October 3rd (21:30) at Dom in Graz, Austria.
Francisco López, on the other hand, above all emphasises an attitude of hearing that he calls acousmatic: He places the reality of perception above the reality of what is perceived and its production.
Philip Jeck with his small, old, remote-controlled record players and an assortment of historical records brings reality directly and up close to the listeners: By means of live manipulation of the records, he condenses the surface noise into a composition.

Jacob Kirkegaard
October 10th (21:30) at Ehemalige Medienfabrik in Graz, Austria.
"4 Rooms"
By repeatedly recording the room, the sound layers condense to produce an audible resonating space that would normally not be perceptible.

Review: Francisco López / Philip Jeck
2 different shows, both excellent!
Francisco López is a sound alchemist, a master in spatial sound relations and dynamics. He transfers his field recordings into abstract walls of sound, using 31-band equalisers to create psychoacoustic experiences. Clear and precise in dynamics and sound López invited me to join a trip initiated by sound. Sometimes I felt excited, sometimes "stoned", sleepy, offended or troubled. An extraordinary experience.
A great performance!
Philip Jeck equipt with 2 old turntables, 2 minidisc-player, some effects, mixing-desk and sample-player-keyboard created a dense athmosphere of strange beauty. Sometimes I had the bizarre feeling that Philip Jeck extractes his sounds and music straight out of old theatre walls. His musical blend is that rich and diverse - sometimes I found myself humming, sometimes wallowing in reminiscences, ..... or absorbed.
A great night on a beautiful place.
Thanks to the artists & to the curators Susanna Niedermayr & Christian Scheib.
