In short:
8K=8K+-(G)<>(A)<>(N) is a remix concert based on the CD “8K” by
Dorninger (base records). “8K” (tags: Techno, IDM, Breaks) is the
original state, the material that undergoes live, clearly defined
manipulation processes: G (granular/digital processing), A (analog
manipulation using dubplates) & N (via the Internet using tubePlug).
The treatment processes are clearly defined with G, A & N, but what is
completely open are the selection, the intervention and participation.
8K=8K+-(G)<>(A)<>(N) arches broadly between sharp focus and blur,
original and quotation, digital and analog, ego trip and collective
composition, live and archive, real time and delay.
The performances are recorded and placed online, so that the
processual nature is documented over a longer period of time.

--------------

Long version:

The piece 8K=8K+-(G)<>(A)<>(N) consists of eight complete electronic
compositions. In phase one these compositions will be released on a
CD. In phase two all eight music-pieces (8K) will be digitally
reconstructed (G), remixed (A) and reinterpreted by other artists via
the net (N), all live. The musical output of these live performances
will be published on the artist’s website and can be downloaded for
free. This process turns the original piece 8K into 8K+-(G)<>(A)<>(N).

Details:
(G) stands for a granular modification of 8K using digital media. A very precise reconstruction of length, pitch, speed, modulation and rearrangements in time and sound will be realized with special software. The work process is carried out with a computer, software and a soundcard with very little latancy.
(A) stands for analog treatments of 8K with dubplates (vinyl records). This will happen with 2 - 4 turntables and a DJ-mixer. In this process the possibilties of remix or reconstruction are limited to repertory, speed, pitch, scratch and dynamics. There are 8 dubplates available – the original piece is on one side, with loops from the original piece on the other.
(N) brings in other sound artists to contribute variations of (G) and (A) online and nearly in real time with the vst-plugin tubePlug. A non-timeline-based musical interaction of sound artists via the net,
playing with different windows of time through delay and latency.

8K=8K+- (G)<>(A)<>(N) is a simple formular to express the continuous change of the original musical output depending on space, expression and the artists involved. An interplay of analog and digital cultural techniques, a seesaw of real and virtual space and soundspace shapes the piece.
