Die Sound Installation “Still Cassette Culture Node.Linz” spannt einen inhaltlichen wie technischen Bogen von der Kassette zum Algorithmischen. Die Entfernung des Menschen zwischen Natur- und Medienerleben ist ein zentrales Thema, das in dieser Installation im schnellen, wie auch langsamen Durchgehen erlebt werden kann. Innehalten, den Raum akustisch neu erfahren, teilnehmen.

Die Installation beginnt mit 4 prägenden Sounds der Cassette Culture auf sehr kurzen Tape Loops auf 4 Kassettengeräten. 1983 gründete Dorninger das Tape Label Die Ind und begann Musik auf Kassette zu veröffentlichen. Die Musik entstand damals zur Hälfte mit modifizierten Kassettengeräten unterschiedlicher Bauart und selbstgelöteten Geräten. “Soldering is the new hometaping”, und deshalb tönen gleich neben den Tape Loops heavy Noises aus chaotischen Schaltungen wie dem “Chaosz “ und autogenerative Musiksequenzen aus dem CMOS Modularsynth “Moduletta”. Sound & Space, mit Klang Raum gestalten und das Abfließen verhindern, den Körper zum Membran machen. 4 taktile Lautsprecher gestalten einen non-linearen Klangraum, synthetisch, körperlich, nach einer Reihe von programmatischen Regeln. Seit 2010 kreiert Dorninger synthetische Vögelklänge und plaziert diese im öffentlichen Raum in Schwärmen, in Flugbahnen oder als Gruppen unter Büschen („Beyond The Water“). Bei “Still Cassette Culture Node.Linz” können sie einen klingenden Vogel algorithmisch selbst modifizieren und einen Computerterminal weiter ganze Populationen mischen. Sie wirken somit wesentlich auf die Sound Installation ein, was mich, Wolfgang Dorninger, als Verfechter von Mail Art, informellen Netzwerken und Interaktionen sehr mit Freude erfüllt.

The sound installation "Still Cassette Culture Node.Linz" spans a contentual and technical arc from the cassette to the algorithmic. The distance of the human being between the experience of nature and the media is a central theme that can be experienced in this installation walking through fast as well as slow. Pausing to experience the room acoustically in a new way, participating.

The installation begins with 4 formative sounds of Cassette Culture on very short tape loops on 4 cassette machines. In 1983, Dorninger founded the tape label Die Ind and began publishing music on tape. At that time half of the music was produced using modified cassette machines of different types and self-soldered devices. "Soldering is the new home taping", and that's why next to the tape loops heavy noises from chaotic circuits like the "Chaosz" tremble and auto generative music sequences from the CMOS Modularsynth "Moduletta" pulse constantly. Sound & Space, creating space with sound and preventing draining, turning the body into a membrane. 4 tactile speakers create a non-linear sound space, synthetic, physical, according to a set of programmatic rules. Since 2010, Dorninger has been creating synthetic bird sounds and placing them in public spaces in swarms, trajectories or as groups under bushes ("Beyond The Water"). Within "Still Cassette Culture Node.Linz" you can algorithmically modify a synthetic sounding bird and on the computer terminal next to it you can mix different birds and populations. Thus, you have a major impact on the sound installation, which, as an advocate of Mail Art, informal networks and interactions, fulfills me, Wolfgang Dorninger, with great pleasure.
