"Nodar Water Suite - Der Fluss als Medium" von Wolfgang Dorninger

"Nodar Water Suite" ist eine konzertante Klanginstallation für 2 Lautsprecher und den Fluss Rio Paiva. An unterschiedlichen Stellen werden Wassergeräusche des Flusses und seiner Zuflüsse aufgenommen, minimal bearbeitet und an einer ruhigen Stelle dem Fluss zugemischt (overdub). Es entsteht ein mediatisierter Fluss, ein akusmatisches Statement, eine virtuelle Realität eines natürlichen Ablaufs.

Musik / Soundinstallation: Die Musik besteht ausschließlich aus Wasseraufnahmen aus Nodar und einigen Aufnahmen von Nachbarorten. Der digitale Eingriff ist sehr gering. Lediglich Rauschunterdrückung, Transposition und Entzerrung werden eingesetzt. Das Stück selbst wird live gemischt. Es kommen folgende Techniken zum Einsatz: Lautstärke, Panorama, Fade in, Fade out, Crossfade und Overdub.

Aufbau: An einer ruhigen Stelle am Fluss Rio Paiva wird der technische Aufbau vorgenommen und auch das Publikum ver"ankert".

Die Installation "Nodar Water Suite" generiert fortwährend neue Fluss- und Wasserlandschaften. Die Wasseraufnahmen stammen alle aus der Gegend von Nodar rund um diesen Fluss. Es gibt nur eine Fremdaufnahme ganz zum Schluss, die sozusagen den Fluss im Meer symbolisiert. Der Fluss selbst ist nicht nur Methapher für Zyklus und Leben, sondern ist in diesem Fall auch ein Medium, ein Speicher. In den Flüssen können wir ablesen wo, wann welche Ortschaften, Gesellschaften Abfälle in den Fluss entladen. Der Fluss ist auch ein Energiespeicher. Ein Energiespeicher der zum Teil durch Technologie entladen wird oder in kleineren Formationen seit Jahrhunderten Mühlen oder Sägewerke betreibt. Der Fluss ist somit ein zentraler Lebensraum der Menschheitsgeschichte.

Bei dieser konzertanten Klanginstallation gehe ich auf diese Situation des Flusses als Medium ein und erzähle mediatisierte Flussgeschichten. Es ist eine Form von Visualisierung. Die Menschen, die an diesem Klangkunstwerk teilhaben, müssen sich diese Wasserlandschaften vorstellen. In diesem Fall sind es die Menschen aus Nodar selbst, die diese Quellen vielleicht sogar sehr gut kennen und in diese Klanglandschaften auch visuell einsteigen können, indem sie sich die dazugehörigen Bilder über die Klanglandschaften in ihr Gedächtnis rufen. Die "Nodar Watermusic Suite" findet nur hier statt, in Nodar, an dieser Stelle des Flusses. Diese Aufführung die am Smstag oder Sonntag je nach Wetter stattfindet, wird es nur einmal geben, genau an dieser Stelle. Wenn wir hier länger sitzen, dann kann das Gefühl entstehen, dass der Fluss so ist, wie wir ihn wahrnehmen. Wir werden erst feststellen, dass der Fluss nicht so ist, wie er ist, wenn wir den Apperat, die Zuspielung abschalten.

"Nodar Water Suite - The river as media" by Wolfgang Dorninger

"Nodar Water Suite" is a soundinstallation concertante for 2 loudspeakers and the Rio Paiva. I've recorded different watersources on different locations on the river and around in houses, places and runlets which have been minimally treated by eletronic sound-devices and dubbed to the Rio Paiva on a "quite" silent part of the river. There will be layers of virtual river-realities creating acoumatic statementes.

Music / sound-installation The music base exclusive of soundrecordings of the Rio Paiva and watersources from Nodar and Parada. The digital intervention is minimal and constists of noise reduction, transposition and equalisation. The piece itself will be mixed live. Used technics are: volume, panorama, fade in, fade out, crossfade and overdub.

Setup at Rio Paiva On a "silent" part of the river in Nodar I'll do the technical setup for this live-mix. The audience will be guided to the sound-installtion on the river but has to find its ideal position of perception by themselves. Technically the installation uses 2 high-quality loudspeakers, car-battery, car soundsystem, laptop with soundcard.

Excerpts from an interview done on the banks of Rio Paiva with Luis Costa (Binauralmedia)

The installation "Nodar Water Suite" generates new river- and waterscapes in a constant flow. The waterrecordings are all made in the area of Nodar, near and at this river. There is only one recording from outside at the end of the piece to symbolize the sea. The river is not only a metaphor for cycle and life, in that special case he is also a media, a memory. In the rivers we can read where when and what villages or companies unload their waste. The river also stores energy of all kind. A storage tool which sometimes will be unloaded through technology, or in smaller units over centuries as mills or sawmills. As a consequence the river become a central living space in the history of humanity.

For this special sound-installation concertante I issue the river a media telling acousmatic waterstories. A visualzation through sound. The people who take part at this performance have to visualize these water"scapes". In this case the people from Nodar itsself, who maybe know the sources quite well, have to link their visual and acoustic memory to make this soundscapes alive as actual locations/images of their own. This performance happen in this form only in Nodar at this segment of the river. The "Nodar Watermusic Suite" will happen only once, saturdays or sundays depending on the weather, here on the river. When we sit longer on the river listening to the piece we start thinking that the river is how it is. We will recognize that the river is not like it seams when we stop the playback of the sound-installation.
